Keith Lewis has 28+ years of dedicated service to the field of K-12 public education, finishing his career in 2023 as the Superintendent of Douglas County School District (Minden, NV). Prior to his superintendent role, Keith served as the Executive Director of Human Resources in DCSD for five years, and as a middle school administrator for 10 years. Keith has been certified as a Labor Relations Professional through the National Public Employees Labor Relations Association.
In addition to Keith’s public education service, he has also served in other leadership roles within a variety of organizations. Keith served as the Vice-President and Secretary-Treasurer of the Nevada Association of School Superintendents (NASS), he was appointed by Nevada's Governor to serve as a commissioner on the Nevada Commission for Professional Standards, and he served as an advisor to the National Council for Modern Teacher. Outside his professional roles, Keith serves as the Co-Director of the Carson Valley Basketball Association.
Keith's academic journey took him from Gardiner High School in Gardiner, Montana, to Boise State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in secondary physical education with a minor in Biology. In 2005, Keith earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from National University.
During his time with the Douglas County School District, Keith successfully handled complex labor issues, including personnel investigations, Title IX inquiries, and grievance proceedings. He has vast experience in labor negotiations, including financial research and contract costing to support the negotiations process. His administrative roles have allowed him to hone his human resource skills with policy development, and the development of job descriptions to support sound hiring practices. His commitment to staff development was evident through successful administrative and student leadership retreats.
Throughout his career, Keith’s unwavering commitment has been rewarded with various honors. In 2023, he was celebrated as the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce Bill Henderson Citizen of the Year, and he was nominated for the national Life Changer of the Year Award. In 2019, he received the first-ever DCSD Board of Trustees Excellence in Leadership Award. His passion for sports and coaching led to his induction into the Douglas High School Basketball Hall-of-Fame and he was recognized as the 2002 Northern 4A – Sierra League – Coach of the Year. During his undergraduate days at Boise State University, Keith was inducted into the Associated Students of Boise State University Hall-of-Fame, and he was elected to serve as the president of the Student Action Council of the American Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AAHPERD).
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Keith finds fulfillment in his personal life by attending sporting events, camping, and supporting the activities of his children. He and his wife of 25 years, Nicole, have made their home in Minden, Nevada, where they cherish their roles as parents to one daughter, Payten, and three sons, Neil, Dominic, and Elliott.
