The District, located 90 miles northeast of Reno, serves just under 700 students in the city of Lovelock and the community of Imlay. With its mountains and lakes, the Humboldt River and the Black Rock Desert, the region is rich in scenic beauty and abundant recreational activities.


The district includes a high school, a middle school, two elementary schools, and adult and prison education programs; all staffed by talented and dedicated individuals. The district is governed by a Board of Trustees composed of caring, thoughtful leaders who are committed to student success. About Lovelock, Nevada

The City Of Lovelock, known as the "Banana Belt", was established in 1868 and incorporated on September 26, 1917.  The city is a community of approximately 2400 people located 90 miles east of Reno along Interstate 80. 


Lovelock is just over one square mile in size, which includes 3 public parks, a skateboard park, a community swimming pool, a hospital, elementary, middle and high schools, a public library, a community center and many  other businesses ranging from feed stores to casinos.

About the Position

 The Pershing County Board of Trustees seeks a student-centered leader to continue to provide an excellent learning environment to meet both the present and future needs of its students.


The successful candidate must be an exceptional leader, with strong interpersonal skills, who values the strengths found in a small community, and who inspires staff and community members to create excellence for all students.  

Essential Functions

  

  • Executes the vision of the school board by drafting, adopting, and implementing policies, procedures, and programs that fulfill all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Administer District programs, activities, and operations in accordance with Federal law, State Education Code requirements, Nevada Revised Statutes, District Board policies, and rules and regulations of the State Board of Education.
  • Attend and participate at all meetings of the Board; provide training to trustees as appropriate.
  • Oversees long-range planning for the school district; addresses community needs for additional schools and other construction and renovation projects.
  • Collaborates with school board members to set goals and to develop a unified mission for the school system; presents this mission to faculty, staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Leads educational staff in developing curriculum; leads support staff in executing other aspects of school operations.
  • Manages the fiscal operations of the school system.
  • Negotiations augmented budgets and bonds. Proposes and presents annual school budgets, including school population projections and staffing expectations for the following year to the school board.
  • Acts as a liaison between schools and school board; lobbies for additional resources when necessary.
  • Assesses inclement weather and other emergency situations and determines whether to close schools or operate on an abbreviated or normal schedule.
  • Conducts research and analysis to support decisions regarding educational programs, spending, staffing, and facilities.
  • Acts as the main representative of, and spokesperson for, the school system. Keeps the public informed on the operation and status of the educational system.
  • Maintains knowledge of laws and regulations related to education.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Collaborator and team builder: Brings together staff, administrators and community to develop trust and work toward organizational goals, establishes systems and accountability for staff to work together across grades and subjects.


  • Visible: In schools and community, gets to know students and adults, strong interpersonal skills, engages well with all people.


  • Accountable: Establishes clear expectations, holds self and others accountable for meeting them. 


  • Courageous: Willing to have difficult conversations and make decisions that will improve students’ school experience, even in the face of significant objections.


  • Governance team member:  Engages with the Board as a partner in governance and leadership.


  • Consistent: Fair and dependable in applying policies to all.


  • Instructional leader: Knows, understands and demonstrates effective instruction.


  • Commitment: Willing to stay for the long-term.


  • Eligibility: Possess a valid Nevada Administrator Endorsement or be able to obtain licensure by July 1, 2024.

Education and Training

  • Master’s degree in education required, Doctorate preferred.
  • Progressively responsible and successful administrative experience in public school administration supplemented by successful classroom teaching experience in an educational environment; college education (master’s degree) with emphasis in curriculum, leadership and administration, instruction, school finance and law; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work.

Experience

Site and/or District administrative experience is preferred.

Licenses/Certificates

Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Nevada driver’s license is required; a valid Nevada teaching license; and Nevada School Administrator Endorsement.
